Wet rooms vs enclosures: which is the right shower for you?

Here at NPM Bathrooms, we’re committed to crafting beautiful bathrooms that don’t compromise on performance. Whether you’re looking to implement a classically styled standing bath, or an ultra-modern wet room design, our in-house experts have the experience and knowhow to help bring your dream bathroom into reality.

Our collection of luxury showers are no exception to this rule. We work with market leading brands such as Merlin and Aquadart, allowing us to source and supply consistently high-quality products for our clients, regardless of the kind of shower they desire. So, if you’re looking for a little bit of buying advice to help you choose exactly the right kind of shower design for you, you’re in the right place.

Wet room or enclosure?

If you’re looking to create a sleek and modern design for your shower, then this is the debate you’ll probably be having in your head. A shower enclosure is essentially a glass panel structure that’s built around a shower to create a splash proof cubicle. They’re an extremely popular choice for ensuite bathrooms, as they don’t require too much space to function, and they’re well suited to more or less any kind of home, whether you’re the owner of a new build or a period property.

On the other hand, we have wet rooms. These have become an increasingly popular alternative to more traditional bathrooms, and they are essentially a stylish, sleek variant of a walk-in shower. Thanks to recent innovations in manufacturing and design, wet rooms are currently enjoying a resurgence in the UK, and they are an increasingly popular choice with many of our own customers here at NPM Bathrooms. They’re basically like having your very own spa, right at home, and they are the absolute pinnacle of luxury bathroom design right now.

How do I decide which is the best option?

We don’t envy you having to choose between these two design schemes! But keep in mind that this won’t be the only choice you’ll need to make when putting together your dream bathroom. For one, style isn’t the only factor you need to take into account, you’ll need to keep in mind the practical factors that each design offers.

As we’ve touched on above, shower enclosures are much more suited to smaller spaces, and can be configured in a way to suit even the most awkward rooms. Typically speaking, shower enclosures provide users with slightly better grip underfoot when compared to wet rooms, due to the material and slip-proof properties of a shower tray.

Alternatively, wet rooms offer a much greater sense of space and openness than a shower enclosure, and given that they’re completely watertight, they provide all the luxury of a shower enclosure, without the need for a shower tray or panelling!

Ultimately, the decision is yours as to the kind of bathroom you want installed in your property. If you need help designing your bathroom, our interior experts are here to help.
