How to have a beautiful bathroom spa day in your own home
Not all of us are able to retreat to a spa hotel as often as we’d like. Fortunately though, there are plenty of ways that you can bring the spa experience into your beautiful luxury bathroom. You can do far more than just a hot bath and a few slices of cucumber on your face! Mud therapy sessions and aromatherapy are just a couple of ideas that you can easily incorporate into your home bathroom spa day – and if you’re looking for more, you’re in exactly the right place! Here are a few ways that you can create the perfect spa day, right at home.
Start with a few basics
When it comes to recreating that spa day atmosphere, comfort and relaxation are the fundamental elements that need to be kept in mind throughout. Scent plays a key part in this, as aromatic smells can trigger memories of relaxation. Consider using things like massage oils and candles to reawaken the memories of your last spa day, and transport you off to world of pampering and and relaxation.
Lighting is also and important part of creating the perfect spa day atmosphere, but it’s totally up to you how you choose to approach it! Natural light and sunshine helps to rejuvenate the skin by exposing it to vitamin D, but opting for darkness can aid a sense of calming for some people. For this, we’d recommend trying out a luxurious eye mask that you can wear as you soak in the bath.
As well as light and smell, sound has an influential effect on your mood. Create a playlist of your favourite relaxing tunes, or pout on some natural sounds like that of waterfalls and tweeting birds, as these are a great way to create a calming, tranquil atmosphere.
Essentially, in order to have a successful spa day, you first need to create an atmosphere that relaxes you.
Take your bath to new heights
Fragrant essential oils, bubble bath or a handful of bath salts are all great ways of introducing an element of aromatherapy to your spa day. Aroma is something very personal, and your body will be drawn to what it most needs. However, there are a few specific essential oils that hold properties that will naturally help your mind and body relax.
Some of the most popular fragrances include naturally sedating vetiver, calming camomile and grounding sandalwood. These can be quite overpowering aromas to some people though, so for a slightly lighter scent, we’d recommend you look into fragrances like Ylang ylang, petigrain and lavender. As an added tip, if you find yourself waking in your sleep and struggling to switch off at night, give Frankincense or Camomile a shot as their aromatherapeutic benefits are great for relieving stress and promoting relaxation.
Bathing is proven to lower the stress hormone cortisol, and helps to stimulate the release of endorphins. Studies that show bathing can lower blood pressure to support heart health, so it’s no surprise that they’re a popular staple of any home spa day! No bath? No problem – apply some body oil right before stepping in the shower, and the hot water and steam will create a relaxing sauna effect.
Miraculous mud therapy
Bring the mud room experience into your bathroom – it’s easier than you think!
To begin, turn on the steam function on your shower, or if this isn’t an option, you could pop your shower on a high heat to fill your bathroom to make a mini steam room as an alternative. Give your body a good scrub to help remove all the dead skin cells, and let the steam open your pores up ready for the mud. Apply the mud to your skin, and let it go to work detoxifying it. As it dries, it will draw out any impurities from your pores. Once dry, wash it all off in the shower and apply a body cream to achieve ultra soft skin.
